Damper Repair & Replacement in Southwest PA

Restore control over airflow, heat, and safety with a fully functional damper.

Better Performance Starts With a Working Damper

Your chimney damper is what regulates airflow through the flue—keeping warm air in when the fireplace is off and letting smoke escape when it’s in use. But if your damper is broken, rusted, or stuck, it can lead to cold drafts, heat loss, smoke problems, or even carbon monoxide buildup. At Piccadilly Chimney, we repair and replace traditional and top-sealing dampers to restore your system’s performance, safety, and energy efficiency—all with zero guesswork and honest recommendations.

Damper FAQs

1. What does a chimney damper do?
The damper is a metal plate that opens and closes the flue to control airflow. When your fireplace isn’t in use, the damper should be closed to keep warm air from escaping your home. When you’re burning a fire, it needs to be fully open to let smoke and gases vent properly.
Common signs include a damper that won’t open or close fully, cold air coming down the flue when it’s closed, smoke spilling into the room when burning a fire, or visible rust and corrosion. If you’re unsure, we can evaluate it during a standard inspection.
In some cases, stuck or misaligned dampers can be adjusted or lubricated back into working order. But if there’s rust, warping, or structural damage, it’s usually safer and more cost-effective to replace it with a new traditional or top-sealing model.
Throat dampers sit above the firebox inside the chimney, while top-sealing dampers are installed at the top of the flue and double as a chimney cap. Top-sealing dampers are more energy-efficient and provide better protection against moisture and drafts.
Most damper replacements can be completed in one visit. We’ll recommend the best type for your system, handle the full installation, and make sure it seals tightly—so you can get back to enjoying your fireplace without hassle.
